Author Suzanne Collins broke new ground in YA literature with The Hunger Games, her dark yet teen-appropriate meditation on inequality, rebellion and revolution. With compelling characters, page-turning suspense and a fully realized dystopian future, the novel became an international bestseller — as would the entire trilogy. But when Collins joined forces with director Gary Ross and producer Nina Jacobson to take the first book to the big screen, it turned into a global phenomenon. Anchored by Jennifer Lawrence’s riveting performance as the brave, bow-and-arrow-wielding Katniss Everdeen, The Hunger Games would soon spawn three more films and make stars of its young cast. Now, Collins and director Francis Lawrence have deepened the lore with The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes, a prequel based on Collins’ 2020 book. In this 100-page celebration of all things Panem, relive your favorite moments, hear from the actors and directors, find out where the original cast are now and get a sneak peek at the new movie.
